Privacy policy

Sourdough Maths is operated by Mark Stent in the United Kingdom. This page explains what we collect, why, and how to opt out.
Information we collect
- Account data. If you sign in, we store your email address, name, and profile image from Google. If you subscribe to Pro, we store a Stripe customer ID linked to your account.
- Recipe data. If you save recipes or log bakes as a Pro user, we store the recipe inputs, ingredient weights, and any notes or ratings you add. This data is private to your account.
- Usage data. Our server logs include IP address, user agent, referrer, and pages visited. This is standard web-server behaviour and we use it for spam prevention and performance monitoring.
Cookies and tracking
On your first visit we show a banner asking whether to enable analytics and advertising cookies. Nothing non-essential is set until you choose. We use cookies for:
- Authentication (always on). A session cookie remembers you between visits if you sign in. This is essential to keep you logged in and is not affected by the consent banner.
- Analytics (opt-in). Google Analytics 4 helps us understand which pages are useful and where bakers get stuck. If you accept, GA stores cookies and a randomised client ID. If you reject, GA runs in consent mode: it sends anonymous, cookieless pings used only for aggregate counts, with no identifiers stored on your device.
- Advertising (opt-in). Free pages display Google AdSense ads. If you accept, AdSense may use cookies to personalise ads and measure performance. If you reject, ads still appear but are non-personalised. You can also manage your ad preferences at adssettings.google.com.
Your choice is stored in your browser's local storage under sm_consent. To change it, clear that entry in your browser's site data and reload the page — the banner will appear again.
Third parties
- Google for sign-in, Analytics, and AdSense.
- Stripe for subscription payments. We never see your card details.
- Resend or similar for transactional email (sign-in magic links).
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Email us to make a request. We do not sell personal data to third parties.
